Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race

In addition to our local races, DBCYA runs the DBCYA Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race each July.

The event dates back to the late 70s when a chance visit to the Spice Islands by a Darwin radio technician led to its establishment.

The 600 mile race between Darwin and Ambon went on to attract around 100 entrants during its glory days in the 1990s.

CYANT ran the event from 1976 until 1998 when it was suspended for safety and security reasons.

For more information on the race and how to enter visit www.darwinambonrace.com.au

Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association
Frances Bay Drive, Darwin

Situated on the banks of Sadgroves Creek just 1km from Darwin CBD, DBCYA is a unique and friendly club. From humble beginnings in 1982, the club now boasts a membership of over 1000 and offers excellent facilities to both local yacht owners and visiting boats. See Darwin Harbour Map

Our 9 race wet season series now has 5 divisions to satisfy an increasing number of yachts that wish to take part in the excitement of racing on Darwin Harbour during a wet season tropical storm! 60 boats entered into the 2006/2007 series.

Each year, the wet season series ends with a spectacular presentation night. Committee members, staff and volunteers put on an event guaranteed to provide a memorable hangover.

Throughout the year, the club offers a wide range of land based entertainment. Live music, quiz nights, theme occasions and auctions to name a few. Our New Years Eve party has become an institution on the Darwin social calendar. Email dbcya@iinet.net.au with any enquiries.
